ARP harmonic damper bolt
2. Durable Damper Bolt
Factory harmonic damper bolts are an area of concern for racers and performance enthusiasts for two reasons: The bolt’s ability to sustain the necessary clamping force when subjected to high-rpm crankshaft flexing and twisting, and the extra abuse from rotating the crank manually when adjusting valve lash, setting timing, and so on. This often results in the bolt head getting “rounded off” to the point where wrenching is compromised. To address these problems ARP offers two solutions: a special 12-point bolt that’s designed to be used with a deep socket and a large hex-headed bolt that is forged to accommodate a standard ½-inch square drive breaker bar or ratchet wrench.

Summit Racing forged crankshaft
4. Forged Crankshafts
Non-twist forged from certified 4340 steel, Summit Racing crankshafts are heat-treated and nitride-hardened then stress-relieved and shot-peened for strength. Each journal is micro-polished and has a 0.125-inch radius to further increase strength. The rod journals have heavy fillets, so narrow rod bearings are required. These crankshafts are available for popular strokes for small- and big-block Chevy engines. Lightened and center-counterweighted versions of Summit Racing Pro LS crankshafts that can support LS engines making 1,400-plus horsepower are also available.
